The   group,   which   started   in   the   autumn   of   2008,   is   interested   in   the   study   of   the   history   and   development   of   industry   and commerce both local and national. Subjects   are   researched   by   group   members   who   then   present   their   findings   to   the   group   followed   by   questions   and   lively discussion. So   far   we   have   looked   at   Mendip   lead   mining;   oil   extraction   at   Kilve;   the   Pawlett   balloon   hanger;   glass   making;   the Bridgwater brick and tile industry; cotton manufacture; Somerset railways and Fussell’s iron works. We aim to go out on visits during the summer before returning to presentations in the autumn. We meet on the first Thursday of the month at 2pm. If you are interested please phone me.
